Danang declares natural disaster emergency after hillside collapse

Danang authorities have declared a natural disaster emergency in several villages of Hung Son Commune after land subsidence and landslide risks were detected, including a hillside collapse.

The decision, issued by the Danang City People’s Committee following a proposal from the municipal Department of Agriculture and Environment, covers residential areas in Arooi, Ating, Da’ding and Put villages where ground subsidence and large cracks have appeared on nearby hillsides.

Between September and November 2025, a series of disasters triggered landslides that damaged residential areas, roads and infrastructure, affecting residents’ safety and livelihoods.

In Arooi Village, home to 36 households and 129 residents, a hillside above the settlement has developed a crack more than 100 metres long, raising fears of a major landslide. Similar 95-97 metre cracks and signs of subsidence have also been recorded in Ating Village, home to 105 households and 355 residents, and Da’ding Village, home to 30 households and 107 residents.

In Put Village, a hillside collapsed at around 9.30 am on November 14, 2025 despite clear weather, sending more than one million cubic metres of soil and rock sliding several kilometres. Three residents went missing; one was later found dead while two remain missing.

A section of the DH4 road linking Hung Son Commune with surrounding villages has also been severely eroded, raising concerns about further landslides.

Authorities have been instructed to monitor the situation closely, prepare evacuation plans for high-risk areas and coordinate with military and police units to assist with emergency response and mitigation work.
