Danang approves VND 6.2 trln investment in Lien Chieu Port

Danang City has approved a VND 6.2 trillion (USD 236 million) investment to complete the remaining shared infrastructure at Lien Chieu Port.

The investment will finance the remaining shared infrastructure, including a 920-metre breakwater, two liquid cargo berths, 5.7 kilometres of access roads and supporting infrastructure, while also funding a dedicated rail link and the relocation of fuel terminals from Danang Bay.

The project, scheduled for the 2026-2030 period, is expected to attract investment in ports, industry and logistics, reduce freight traffic through the city centre and support the conversion of Tien Sa Port into an international cruise port.

The first phase of the shared infrastructure, costing more than VND 3.4 trillion, was completed in March, while a VND 1.2 trillion coastal road linking the port has also been opened.

In April, Danang broke ground on the VND 45 trillion Lien Chieu Container Port project, which will have eight berths capable of handling vessels of up to 18,000 TEU.

The port is designed to handle 5.7 million TEU, or about 74 million tonnes of cargo, annually, with the first phase expected to reach 4 million TEU a year within three years of operation.
