Dalat’s Prenn Pass temporarily reopens with restricted hours

Dalat’s Prenn Pass has been temporarily reopened with fixed time slots over the next three days to ensure safety.

The Lam Dong Province Department of Construction on December 5 confirmed that repairs are under way at a landslide site on Prenn pass, part of National Highway 20 in Xuan Huong-Dalat Ward. The road reopened to traffic, except trucks, from December 5 to 7.

On December 5, vehicles may travel from 9 am to 10 pm. On December 6 and 7, permitted hours run from 5 am to 10 pm. Outside these periods, drivers must use alternative routes for safety.

The department warned that ongoing rain and floods, combined with repair works, require drivers to remain cautious, reduce speed, follow traffic signs and comply with diversion plans.

Traffic police and Xuan Huong-Dalat Ward authorities have been asked to deploy officers to manage traffic and ensure public safety. The project management board was requested to install road signs consistent with construction and diversion plans.

A major landslide struck the pass at midday on December 4 after prolonged rain sent soil, rocks and trees sliding down a steep slope, blocking the road near the Datanla Waterfall tourist site. The slope remains unstable, with shifting debris posing further risk, prompting authorities to halt two way traffic.

Prenn and Mimosa passes, measuring 10km and 11km along National Highway 20, are key gateways connecting Dalat with southern provinces.
