CPV Central Committee’s 12th conference wraps up

The 12th conference of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (the 10th tenure) concluded on March 28.

The 12th conference of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee (the 10th tenure) concluded on March 28 after one week.

In his closing speech, Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh highlighted the contents discussed at the conference.

He emphasised the significance of the event, saying this is an important step in preparation for the upcoming 11th National Party Congress.

The Party leader noted that the international situation and the revolutionary reality in our country require the CPV to firmly maintain its orientations and develop its political platform adopted in 1991 in line with the national development in the new era. “Moving towards socialism is the desire of our people and the correct choice of the CPV and late President Ho Chi Minh,” he said.

Mr Manh emphasised that in this transitional period, Vietnam aims to establish its basic economic foundation for socialism with a superstructure of politics, ideology and culture in order to build a prosperous nation. From now until the mid-21st century, the entire Party and people must work hard to create a socialist-oriented modern industrial country.

The Party General Secretary said in the past 10 years of implementing the 2001-2010 Strategy, Vietnam has gained remarkable achievements with an average annual economic growth rate of 7.2 percent to shed its under-developed nation status. By 2010, the total GDP had reached US$1,200/per capita and people’s living standard has improved considerably.

Over the next ten years, he said Vietnam will focus on boosting sustainable development and comprehensive renovation with the aim of building a prosperous, equal and civilised nation, promoting democracy and considering human as a key factor in national development. It will pay due attention to developing science and technology, and perfecting production relations in line with a socialist-oriented market economy with a high sense of independence and self-reliance in the context of deeper international integration.

In so doing, Vietnam expected to become a modern industrial country in 2010, have a stable socio-political situation and ensure better living conditions for the people, thus creating a firm foundation for the next period of development, Mr Manh said.

Referring to the Political Report to be delivered at the 11th National Party Congress, he said the focus will be on strengthening the leadership capacity and combative spirit of the Party, as well as bringing into full play the nation’s strengths to build Vietnam into a modern industrial country.

On personnel work, Mr Manh stressed that it is very important and essential to Party building to have a party central committee fully capable of fulfilling its tasks in the new stage if the revolution.

In conclusion, Mr Manh asked the Party Central Committee and local Party organisations to make and combine thorough preparations for the 11th National Party Congress with the successful implementation of the resolution of the 10th National Party Congress as well as the five-year (2006-2010) socio-economic development plan.
