The October consumer price index (CPI) increased 0.36 percent compared to last month’s figure, raising the average CPI in the past ten months to 17.05 percent.
These figures have posed major challenges for the Government in in its efforts to curb inflation at 18 percent in 2011.
Eight out of 11 commodity groups saw an increase between 0.06 percent and 3.2 percent in October with food and services recording the lowest increase, from 0.28 percent in September to 0.06 percent in October.
However, challenges still remain for the rest of the year, as food prices are likely to rise because of the natural calamities suffered by many countries in the region.
In order to curb inflation at 18 percent for 2011 and bring the rate of inflation to a single-digit number in 2012, the Government should implement its six major solutions immediately.
