Tens of residents of the luxury Pacific Place building in Hanoi's Hoan Kiem District held a protest against the management board on August 21 for continuing with more construction.

The owner of the building is Ever Fortune Company, a member of Singaporean corporation, Mapletree Property. According to the residents, the owner and managers violated the contracts and did not ask the residents' opinions before starting construction.
Currently, general architecture, pathways and public spaces, are being affected by the construction to enlarge the Ever Fortune Trade Centre and to add more outdoor elevators to the buildings. In addition, residents also complained about the noise from the newly-opened Viet-Sing Clinic and the Rooftop Bar.
The resident of apartment 903 said the elevator blocks his windows, while the noise really upsets the children. Therefore, several residents asked the Ever Fortune Company to stop all construction work within 10 days, starting August 18.
However, Chai Cheng Huan, a representative of the company said they have rental contracts of 50 years with residents so all public spaces are under the company's management. They did not violate any contracts. All of the construction has been approved by the local Fire Prevention and Fighting Police Department and the Construction Department.
When being questioned about unannounced construction work, Huan said they notify the residents about all changes to the blocks. "They can't ask us to stop the work, we very carefully followed the regulations." he said.
Nguyen Quoc Tuan, deputy head of the Hanoi Department of Construction, said they have halted the construction and carried out inspections to see if the owner followed the approved blue-print.
Pacific Palace is a complex of 144 apartments and an Ever Fortune Trade Centre.
