Local resident in Bac Tra My panicked after the quake

Tran Anh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the district People’s Committee said most earthquakes were relatively slight.

The latest incident happened at 6am on November 6, when the land began shaking in some areas in Bac Tra My.

Tran Minh Y, a local man from Bac Tra My Town, said, “I heard something like a bang and then saw furniture shaking slightly at around 6am.”

According to Tuan, district officials had no information about the intensity of recent earthquakes as surveillance equipment had failed to measure anything.

The Global Physics Institute also claimed it had no information about recent quakes after the 4.5-richter quake in the evening of October 22.

Meanwhile, local statistics showed that over 900 houses and public works had been destroyed as a result of earthquakes in Bac Tra My District as of November 5.

The institute recently pledged to install five earthquake surveillance stations by the end of October. However, only one has been installed to date.

Associate Prof Nguyen Van Giang from the institute told Dantri/DTiNews that four remaining surveillance machines have been transported to Song Tranh 2 hydropower plant’s area to prepare for installation.

“Russian specialists are piloting the machines around the hydropower plant before being officially installed,” he added.
