Many airlines have opened new routes to Con Dao but the local infrastructure is still very limited. Con Dao's runway is short and narrow and can only operate during the day. In order to have night flights, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam asked to install the lighting system as soon as possible.
Despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, Con Dao Airport has seen more and more direct flights. Bamboo Airways have opened the Hanoi-Con Dao, Hai Phong-Con Dao, Vinh-Con Dao and HCM City-Con Dao routes. VASCO opened a HCM City-Con Dao route.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam held an online meeting in late March to review the operation at Con Dao Airport and how to improve its capability.
