Under the proposal by Can Gio Tourism Urban JSC, which was sent to the HCM City People’s Committee, the developer of the Can Gio sea-encroachment urban project, the three ferries with a capacity of 200 tonnes will help connect the city centre and the Can Gio area.
The Binh Khanh ferry route
The move is expected to alleviate congestion on the Binh Khanh Ferry route, which is currently severely overloaded. Long queues of cars waiting to board the ferry are a frequent sight. The situation worsens during major events in Can Gio, when the influx of vehicles causes severe congestion on the route.
The route currently serves about 22,000 passengers daily and reaches as many as 44,000 on peak days.
HCM City advocated the company’s sponsorship recommendation for the ferries.
Can Gio Tourism Urban JSC will work with the Binh Khanh Ferry operator to finalise the procedures for delivery and operation.
