Cold front forecast to hit northern Vietnam in late September

A weak cold front is expected to reach northern Vietnam by late September, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The agency said the country has faced dramatic weather over the past month, including storms, tropical depressions, record downpours and intense heatwaves.

Storm Kajiki brought 543 millimetres of rain to Thanh Hoa and Nghe An, the highest level at Bai Thuong Station since records began in 1994. Several other weather stations in the north also reported record-breaking rainfall.

Between September 11 and October 10, average nationwide temperatures are forecast to be near normal. However, the north and provinces from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh may be 0.5–1 degree Celsius warmer than usual.

A cold front may appear in the north from late September, but with weak and unstable intensity.

Forecasters expect 5–7 storms to form in the East Sea before year’s end, with around half likely to affect Vietnam.
