On the occasion of International Children's Day, Hanoi Medical University organised a charity musical performance to help children with harelip on May 31.
The Hanoi Medical University Hospital aims to help children who cannot afford operation costs and hopes that these children will get their smile back.
Dao Tien Quan, Secretary of the Youth Union Branch of the Hanoi Medical University Hospital said, “The charity programme is a part of our way to celebrate the 1,000 year anniversary of Thang Long (Hanoi). We plan to support total operation expenses for 5 children. The donations will come from the Youth Union Branch of the Hanoi Medical University Hospital, students, agencies, companies and kind-hearted donors.”
The operation costs are about VND5 million ($263) per patient. The Hanoi Medical University Hospital and Teeth, Jaw and Face Hospital of the Hanoi Medical University will coordinate to carry out the surgery and provide care before and after the operation.
The programme targets children under 5 in remote and impoverished areas.
Organisers of the programme also plan to conduct free checking and treating for wounded and ill veterans. In addition, they will also distribute books to children.
The concert attracted donations worth nearly VND 50 million (USD 2,600) in total. Vietlife Medical Centre, The Manor Charity Fund and KT YT TS Company, contributed VND 10 million each.
