The projects, spanning about 8.8 kilometres through Chanh Hung and Binh Dong wards, are planned for the 2026-2030 period and are expected to be submitted to the municipal People's Council for approval at an upcoming session.
Hundreds of homes remain along and over Doi Canal in Chanh Hung Ward.
The HCM City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board is completing pre-feasibility studies for the four projects.
The developments are expected to affect 7,111 properties, with 5,807 households facing full relocation.
More than 4,000 resettlement apartments are planned in the area to accommodate affected residents and allow them to remain close to their current neighbourhoods.
In Chanh Hung Ward, the first section, from Rach Ong Bridge to Mat Bridge, is estimated to cost VND 6.425 trillion. It includes about 1.2 kilometres of embankment along the canal's southern bank and the widening of Pham The Hien Street to 30 metres.
The second section, from Mat Bridge to Hiep An Bridge, is estimated at VND 14.6 trillion and includes about 2.1 kilometres of embankment, upgrades to Mat and Hiep An bridges and nearly 10 hectares of new green space.
In Binh Dong Ward, the third section, from Hiep An Bridge to Ba Tang Bridge, is expected to cost VND 10.805 trillion. It includes about 2.6 kilometres of embankment and a new Ba Tang Bridge.
The fourth section, from Ba Tang Bridge to the end of the canal's southern bank, is estimated at VND 15.632 trillion and includes about 2.9 kilometres of embankment.
Once completed, the projects are expected to improve transport links, the canal-side environment and urban landscape along the southern bank of Doi Canal.
