Vietnam is fully aware that guaranteeing children’s rights to survival; to develop to the fullest; to protection from harmful influences, abuse and exploitation; and to participate fully in family, cultural and social life means to invest in the country’s future.
A celebration was held Feb. 23 in Hanoi to mark the 20th birthday of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).
Vietnam is the first Asian country and the second one in the world to approve the Convention on February 20, 1990.
Attending the ceremony, Permanent Deputy PM Nguyen Sinh Hung confirmed that the child care in Vietnam is increasingly bettered.
All poor and under-6-year-old children enjoy free medical treatment; child accidents and injuries have significantly dropped; and community re-integration for disadvantaged children receives greater attention.
Deputy PM Hung took the occasion to applaud supports and assistance from international and non-governmental organisations over the past years in this field.
In 2010, as the ASEAN Chair, Vietnam will do its utmost to guarantee children’s rights, pledged the Deputy PM.
