Cam Ranh customs clears the confusion with Chinese passengers

Customs officials at Cam Ranh International Airport in Khanh Hoa Province denied attempted bribery claims by three Chinese passengers.

Customs officials at Cam Ranh International Airport in Khanh Hoa Province denied attempted bribery claims by three Chinese passengers.

On May 29, three Chinese passengers refused to board their planes at 9 pm to return to China, claiming that the customs officers had asked them for bribes while they were completing their procedures.

They were then scheduled to board a flight at 1.40 am the next day but they still refused to leave.

Nothing unusual found in the clip

Customs officials worked with the police, the provincial Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Tourism to check the security camera but nothing unusual was found. In the clip, the Chinese passengers started their immigration procedure for 12 seconds then suddenly left. There was no apparent evidence that they were asked for bribery.

A security guard said, "Maybe it's because of the language barrier. They didn't speak mandarin so even the guide found it difficult to understand them clearly. After watching the clip and talking with Chinese embassy on the phone, they agreed to leave."

Nguyen Van Cuong, head of the customs office at Cam Ranh Airport, said they had worked with the police to investigate the case for more details.

The Chinese Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City arrived in Khanh Hoa to deal with the case. It is reported that the three passengers are from the one family. They had old people and children so they had asked to be prioritised while doing procedures but were refused.

After being explained to, they asked to be given food and water and agreed to return to China on May 30.
