An Internet virus security company has warned that scores of bogus Facebook pages and websites are being created each day, with millions of fake messages circulating on the system to steal money and information, and banks are not paying enough attention to Internet security.

BKAV, a Hanoi-based anti-virus and security software company, said at least 40 bogus Facebook pages are created each day to send scam messages or swindle account information from users. About 200 bogus websites are created each month with fake discount promotion programmes to steal information from mobile phone subscribers.
In July, two teenage boys were imprisoned for using fake mobile promotion programmes to steal USD10,600 between September 2014 and February 2015. Pham Quang Hieu, 17, received a two-year prison sentence, and 16-year-old Ngo Xuan Long was imprisoned for 12 months.
A spokesman for BKAV said 13.9m scam messages were sent each day over the past six months, up from 13.5m a year earlier.
Since early 2015, 2,790 websites of state agencies and organisations have been hacked, and 30 percent of the websites of Vietnamese banks have high security issues.
"Security issues can cripple the whole system. But banks still largely ignore many issues that can be prevented," said Nguyen Thanh Son, an expert in internet security said.
