The inspectors uncovered vast financial abuse of funding for classrooms and construction of houses for teachers during the 2008-2012 period.
The violations were uncovered during an inspection of 500 projects with total investment reach up to VND760 billion. 497 violations valued at VND13 billion were discovered of which VND12 billion was stolen during the construction of new classrooms and VND1.6 billion in housing for teachers.
Most of losses were attributed to the purchase of cheaper construction materials, cheap architecture and fake quality control testing.
Nghe An Province was provided funding to build over 5,125 classrooms and 1,050 public houses for teachers worth VND1,556 billion, with funding from state bonds contributing than VND1,062 billion.
4,875 classrooms and 925 public houses have been completed, however, VND13 billion remains missing. Inspectors have asked senior authorities to take disciplinary measures, more importantly, to recover the lost money.
