Bamboo Airways gets licence for commercial flights

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has given Bamboo Airways an Aircraft Operator Certificate for commercial flights on January 7.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has given Bamboo Airways an Aircraft Operator Certificate (AOC) for commercial flights on January 7.

According to Vo Huy Cuong, deputy head of the CAAV, Bamboo Airways still has to complete many other procedures before they can start operating this month.

Bamboo Airways was set up in 2017 and received its air transport business licence in early November 2018. An airline representative said the company was fully prepared for the flights. It hopes to operate 37 routes across Vietnam and internationally.

In the first phase, it will operate 60 domestic flights a day including Hanoi-Quy Nhon, Hanoi-HCM City, HCM City-Van Don and Hanoi-Dong Hoi routes. They will also launch international flights to Japan, Singapore and South Korea in 2019.

Bamboo Airways will be Vietnam’s first hybrid carrier, combining the traditional and low-cost models.
