An Giang authorities capture a 2-metre python after it slithers into a local home on December 20
At around 1 pm on December 20, residents in Vinh Te Ward discovered a python more than 2 metres long and weighing about 15kg slithering through a metal gate into a house and immediately alerted local authorities.
Police officers from Vinh Te Ward quickly coordinated with local residents to surround and capture the animal. After about 30 minutes, the python was safely secured and handed over to the Tra Su cajuput forest eco-tourism site to be released back into the wild.
A local resident, identified as Hien, who took part in the operation, said the python may have been released on Sam Mountain by people performing ritual animal releases. Unable to find sufficient food in the wild, it likely became hungry and wandered into residential areas.

Hien added that encounters with wildlife such as snakes, pythons and monitor lizards are common in homes near the mountain, including venomous species.
“During the rainy season, we always keep our doors closed because we’re afraid snakes or pythons might crawl into the house,” he said.
