African Swine Fever-infected pigs sold in Can Tho

More than 840 kilogrammes of pork infected with African Swine Fever but stamped with quarantine certificates were discovered by a slaughterhouse and several market stalls in Can Tho City.

Can Tho police, in coordination with relevant agencies, have busted an illegal slaughtering and trading operation involving pigs infected with the African Swine Fever virus in Vinh Vien Commune.

Authorities earlier raided Dang Phu Ty’s slaughterhouse in Vinh Vien Commune and found a 120-kilogramme pig already stamped with a quarantine seal. Tests confirmed the meat was infected with the African Swine Fever virus.

Police investigations revealed that the pig belonged to a trader at Vinh Vien Market.

Further inspections at two meat stalls in the market revealed that 10 out of 12 fresh and chilled pork samples tested positive for the African Swine Fever virus. All 840 kilos of infected meat were subsequently seized and destroyed.

Residents are urged not to slaughter or consume pigs suspected of disease, but to report them promptly to veterinary or local authorities to prevent outbreaks and protect public health.
