Additional 202,180 more Covid-19 infections reported on Sunday

The Vietnamese Ministry of Health on Sunday reported an additional 202,180 Covid-19 infections, raising the country's patient tally to over 4.43 million.

According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in all 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (29,578), Bac Ninh (8,355), Nghe An (7,579), Hai Phong (5,154), and Hung Yen (3,904). Two northern provinces of Bac Giang and Hoa Binh today also added 26,349 and 33,695 new infections respectively to the national tally.

As of Sunday evening, 4,427,225 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country last April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (550,920), Hanoi (395,034), Binh Duong (311,860), Bac Ninh (143,536), and Quang Ninh (125,401).

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 4,434,700. The country now stands 21st among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

On March 6, an additional 65,445 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,681,447.

On Sunday evening, a further 87 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 40,813. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (11), Dak Lak (7), Danang (6), Nghe An (5), Thai Nguyen (5), and Gia Lai (4).

Vietnam on March 5 administered 284,876 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 197.57 million.
