Additional 14,861 Covid-19 infections confirmed on Tuesday

An additional 14,861 Covid-19 infections were confirmed in Vietnam on Tuesday and Hanoi continued to record the highest number with nearly 2,500 cases, according to the Ministry of Health.

According to the ministry's report, 14,829 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 60 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,499), Tay Ninh (916), Khanh Hoa (797), HCM City (664), Binh Dinh (608). There were 32 imported patients confirmed today. Vietnam has so far confirmed 20 Omicron-infected cases.

The new infections showed a decrease of 1,087 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 10,864 infections found in the community.

As of Tuesday evening, 1,794,866 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (505,523), Binh Duong (291,061), Dong Nai (98,183), Tay Ninh (78,837), and Hanoi (54,230).

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 1,800,704. The country now stands 31st among 223 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

On January 4, an additional 16,227 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,413,384.

On Tuesday evening, a further 224 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 33,245. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (26), Dong Nai (26), An Giang (18), Dong Thap (15), Vinh Long (15), Can Tho (11), Hanoi (10), Soc Trang (10), Tay Ninh (10), Tien Giang (10), Ben Tre (9), Kien Giang (9), Bac Lieu (8 ), Binh Duong (7), Long An (7), Hue (6), Hau Giang (5), Ca Mau (5), Binh Thuan (4), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (4), Hai Duong (2), Khanh Hoa (2), Lam Dong (2), Gia Lai (2), and Tra Vinh (1).

Vietnam on January 3 administered 405,584 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 154.34 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 69.61 million people having received two doses.
