According to MAG, the unexploded ordnance from the American War was discovered by Ho Khuon, a resident of Dan Hoa Commune, while fishing in a stream about 20 metres from National Highway 12A. She later reported it to local authorities.

MAG experts identified the bomb as an MK82 weighing 241kg, with a lethal radius of 1.5 kilometres. It was safely defused and transported to a demolition site.

Local authorities in Dan Hoa Commune said similar bombs had been found in the area, with MAG having cleared more than 10 large bombs.

Also in Quang Tri, the mobile Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team of NPA/RENEW said on September 24 that it had safely handled an 81mm mortar round left from the US War.

Workers discovered the shell about one metre underground while installing a drainage pipe at a household in Dong Ha Ward.
