The events were organized to appeal to organizations and individuals to share the pain of AO victims and donate blood, gifts, and money to them.
The Hanoi event, held together with the Thang Long CIT Joint Venture Company in Thong Nhat (Unification) Park, attracted 5,000 walkers.
In Ho Chi Minh City, 7,000 people took part in what was the fifth annual walk. Vietnam Television, the Vietnam Communication Development Joint Stock Company, and Dam Sen Cultural Center in District 11 join hands with the Red Cross to organise it.
The Vietnam Red Cross Society has launched the “Action Month for AO victims” from August 10 to September 10, Tran Ngoc Tang, its chairman, said.
In the last three years the Society has raised VND157 billion (USD7.63 million) for AO victims, he said.
On August 10, 1961, US troops first sprayed Agent Orange during the Vietnam War. The defoliant contained the toxic chemical dioxin.
