11 new records for Quang Binh province

A Vietnamese agency has made public 11 national records at the closing ceremony of the Quang Binh Province’s Cultural-Tourism Week 2011.

The Vietnam Record Book Center (Vietking) on June 11, made public 11 Vietnam’s records at the closing ceremony of the Quang Binh Province’s Cultural-Tourism Week 2011.

Largest cave in the world

Quang Binh’s Son Doong cave is recognised as the cave with the largest dome in Vietnam. Without this record, Son Doong has been famous worldwide as the world’s largest cave (200 metres wide, over 150 metres high, at least 6.5 metres long).

The cave is part of the Phong Nha-Ke Bang grotto system in central Quang Binh Province. A local man discovered Son Doong in 1991, and was explored by British explorers in 2009. Since then it has been widely known in the world for its gigantic size and its beauty.

On this occasion, Quang Binh also welcomes ten other records: province with the highest number of caves (over 300 caves in the Phong Nha-Ke Bang grotto system), province with the highest number of underground rivers, province with the longest section of the Ho Chi Minh highway (320 kilometres out of the total 2,800kilometres).

Other records include: the outdoor mineral spring with the highest temperature in Vietnam, the longest coast and beach, province with the narrowest width, Sun Spa Resort – the resort with the longest coast and riverbank, Thien Duong – the longest dry cave (60 metres high, 30-150 metres wide).

Thien Duong cave also received other records: the longest wood bridge, dry cave with the most special system of stalactites.
