The average score of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic test taken by Vietnamese people was 6.2 out of 9.0 this year, thereby ranking 29th out of 39 countries, down six places compared to 2022.
According to the latest IELTS’s report on global IELTS scores for the year, 21% of Vietnamese got 6.0 while, only 5% of candidates managed to reach 8.0.
In Southeast Asia, Vietnam ranked fourth, along with Cambodia and Thailand.
In the General Training test, the average score of Vietnamese candidates was 5.7 out of 9.0, ranking 34th out of countries globally.
In the test, the majority of Vietnamese got 5.0pts, accounting for 15% of the total candidates, and 5.5pts, representing 14%. Only 5% of local candidates managed to reach 8.0. The average scores for Vietnamese test takers were 5.7 and 5.6 each in listening and reading, 5.8 in writing, and 5.4 in speaking.
The report stated that 79.08% of global candidates chose to take the Academic test for the purpose of studying, while 20.92% of candidates chose the General test for vocational training and migration.
IELTS is graded on a scale of one to nine in order to test the ability of listening, reading, writing, and speaking in English. IELTS is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP IELTS, and Cambridge University Press & Assessment.
