While the third attack occurred at 8.50 pm on July 10 with the SE6 train in Tung Chau Commune, had a window of carriage 3 broken.

Following reports, police found three local teenage boys aged between 13-16 did the stone attacks.

The boys said they gathered together to throw stones at the trains as a game.

Authorities are considering suitable punishment against the teenagers.

VRC said this was not the first time trains had been targeted by people throwing stones.

"There were 75 stone attacks on our trains in the first half of this year, breaking glass windows of 79 trains," the corporation reported. "The attacks occurred mostly in Khanh Hoa (18 cases), Dong Nai (15), Binh Dinh (8), Quang Nam (8), and Binh Thuan and Thua Thien Hue (five each)."

On July 10, an assistant train driver was badly injured in the head after someone threw stones at a train in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai.

VRC has asked localities to take more stringent measures to prevent stone attacks on trains on local railways.
