Tan Son Nhat airport congested ahead of Tet

Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCM City is experiencing congestion as Tet Lunar New Year approaches.

On January 23, Tan Son Nhat International Airport served approximately 1,000 flights with over 138,000 passengers.

From early morning, the terminal was packed with crowds. At the domestic terminal, many passengers had to wait in line for up to 45 minutes, but only to find themselves still far from the check-in counters.

Dang Dinh Chuong from District 10 shared that he had been waiting for over 30 minutes to check in his luggage but had not yet reached the counter. While waiting, he was informed of a 30-minute flight delay. Earlier he also faced serious traffic congestion on the road and had to spend up to 50 minutes to come to the airport, instead of just 15 minutes as usual.

Nguyen Linh from District 7 said he wasn't surprised by the crowd at Tan Son Nhat International Airport. He waited in line for about 45 minutes but had only made it halfway, with a long way to go before reaching the check-in counter.

The security forces are stationed to remind drivers not to stop for more than 3 minutes, ensuring a smooth flow of traffic.

Tan Son Nhat International Airport has deployed more staff and added additional flights to ease congestion during Tet. Bus routes and ride-hailing services are also running at full capacity to accommodate passengers, offering quick connections from the city center to the airport.

The airport is expected to serve 4 million passengers between January 14 and February 12, including 1.5 million foreigners.
