The Lach Quen Border Guard Station in Quynh Luu District was informed at 6 pm on March 18 that the fishing boat had sunk earlier the same day while returning to shore, some six nautical miles from Mat Island.
While the cause of the incident was yet to be confirmed, four crewmembers on the boat, including captain Nguyen Van Cuong, 45, Tran Van Huu, 30, Le Tuan Anh, 20, and Bui Sy Nhat, 48, remained missing.
The boat set off from Lach Quen Port on March 17.
The Lach Quen Border Guard Station has mobilised a rescue team and called on concerned agencies to co-operate in finding the missing crew members.
