Dantri/DTiNews readers have donated VND304 million (USD12,096) for an 11-year-old girl in the southern province of Ben Tre whose father died, while her mother left her when she was just two years old.
Truong Thi Ngoc Yen, 11, from Giong Trom District’s Thanh Phu Dong Commune was abandoned by her mother at age two. Since then, her mother has never returned.
The donation granted to Yen
When Yen was eight years old, her father died due to illness. Since then, she lived with her paternal grandparents who are both sick. Yen has to do different jobs to earn a living.
A group of donors recently helped to build a new VND80 million house for the family. They also opened a savings book worth VND50 million for Yen.
Yen's grandmother, Phan Thi Chuc expressed her great thanks to the community.
Nguyen Thi Hang, deputy head of Giong Trom’s Red Cross, said the agency had also helped open two more saving books for the family.
Over the past three years, the district’s Red Cross has called on local people to assist Yen.
