The aim is to promote the protection and conservation of aquatic resources.
Around 200,000 young fish were released into Tien River on the morning of October 11
The event, which took place at the Tien River section running through Hong Ngu City, attracted a large number of participants.
According to Huynh Minh Tuan, vice chairman of the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee, releasing fish to restore aquatic resources is regularly conducted in various areas in the province.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien, since 2022, the ministry has collaborated with An Giang, Can Tho and Dong Thap to release thousands of tonnes of fish into the Tien and Hau rivers, including many kinds of endangered and rare species.
This effort has helped to restore aquatic resources in the Mekong Delta region.
Tien urged Mekong Delta localities to prioritise campaigns that raise public awareness about protecting aquatic resources, while also stepping up patrols and monitoring efforts to detect violations promptly.
People should be encouraged to avoid destructive fishing practices, such as using electric shocks to catch fish. Violations related to fishing and the protection of aquatic resources must be strictly punished, Tien noted.
