The design of the whale statue in Vung Tau Ward, HCM City
According to the Vung Tau Urban Construction Management Board, the sculpture will be made of 20-millimetre-thick red bronze on a stainless-steel frame, with a designed lifespan of 100 years. Construction began this week and is expected to be completed before the Lunar New Year 2026.
The monument, costing more than VND 50 billion (approximately USD 1.9 million), will serve as one of two main highlights of the Thuy Van Park upgrade, alongside the Tam Thang Tower. The former flagpole stage area has been cleared for the project.
The site will also include a stone plaque introducing the Thang Tam Temple Festival, water fountains, and artistic lighting to enhance the coastal landscape.
The first phase of the Tam Thang Tower has been completed and is already drawing residents and visitors from Ho Chi Minh City to Vung Tau.
