The Airports Corporation of Vietnam said work on key components of the Vinh international airport project is being accelerated to ensure operations can restart on December 19, in line with several major projects nationwide that are beginning or reopening around the same time.

Vietnam Airlines said it will resume scheduled services once the airport is cleared to operate. From December 19 the airline plans seven return flights a day between Vinh and Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, including five on the Vinh, Ho Chi Minh City route and two on the Vinh, Hanoi route.

Vietjet said it will also restore routes to Vinh as soon as the airport reopens. Its Ho Chi Minh City, Vinh service is set to resume on December 19 with five return flights a day, rising to six on Saturdays.

Vinh Airport closed on July 1 for infrastructure upgrades. During the shutdown airlines suspended all flights to and from Vinh and increased services to nearby airports including Noi Bai and Tho Xuan in Thanh Hoa to maintain travel demand in the north central region.
