Only passengers with checked baggage, unaccompanied children, elderly travellers and those needing assistance may continue to check in at staffed counters.
All other travellers will complete the entire process from ticket purchase and check-in to security screening and boarding using biometric verification integrated with VNeID or via airport kiosks.
A representative of Vietnam Airlines said the new policy aims to improve safety, reduce waiting times and enhance the travel experience. The airline recommends that passengers activate VNeID level 2 verification to access full functions and minimise errors during check-in.
Airport staff advise passengers to download the Vietnam Airlines or Vietjet app, which connects with VNeID for faster processing during check-in.
Many travel agencies said they have notified passengers and partners about the new requirement. They noted that the change helps shorten procedures and that staff will assist first-time users.
In Vietnam, biometric technology using the VNeID platform is currently deployed at several airports including Noi Bai in Hanoi, Danang, Cam Ranh in Khanh Hoa and Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City. Biometric check-in points are located near biometric security lanes and boarding gates.
