The incident, captured on video by witnesses and widely shared on social media, occurred at around 4 pm on June 29 at Bai Chay Beach.
Footage showed the pair becoming entangled in palm fronds and suspended several metres above the ground after their parasail drifted off course during landing.
A representative of the beach's parasailing operator told Dantri/Dtinews on July 2 that the incident was an extremely rare occurrence.
"I have operated parasailing services since 2006, and this is the first time anything like this has happened," the representative said.
According to the operator, the flight was nearing completion when a sudden gust of wind pushed the parasail sideways as it descended, causing it to become caught in the crown of a coconut tree.
Rescue personnel immediately responded and safely brought both tourists to the ground within minutes.
Neither passenger was injured, and both remained in good condition after the rescue. The mother and child later continued their holiday activities at the resort.
Parasailing at Bai Chay is operated as a tandem activity, with participants accompanied by a trained operator and not involved in controlling the equipment.
Before take-off, passengers are fitted with life jackets and secured in a safety harness attached to the parachute through specialised connectors. They remain seated throughout the flight while the operator manages the entire experience.
Flights typically last between five and six minutes, depending on wind conditions and the combined weight of the passengers.
The listed price for a tandem parasailing flight is VND 1.5 million (approximately USD 58) for two people.
Parasailing has become a popular attraction at beaches across Vietnam, offering visitors five to 10 minutes of aerial views of the coastline while being towed behind a speedboat.
