The footage shows numerous visitors seated along the railway corridor, eagerly waiting for the train to pass. This is a popular yet controversial experience in Hanoi's Old Quarter. The driver repeatedly blew the horn as the train approached to signal caution.
The incident occurred when the fourth carriage was passing. The male tourist, distracted while recording the moment on his phone lost his footing and fell toward the moving train. Fortunately, nearby visitors reacted swiftly, pulling him to safety. Tables and drinks were knocked over, and the scene left surrounding tourists visibly shaken.
The video quickly sparked public concern online, with many users criticising the dangerous behaviour and the continued operation of cafés along active railway lines.
"This area has long been known for its safety violations, yet some businesses continue to operate in blatant disregard for railway regulations," said Doan Quang Hai, a Hanoi resident. "After incidents like this, we can't wait for tragedy before taking action," he added, calling for stricter enforcement.
Speaking to Dantri Newspaper, a representative from the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security confirmed that authorities were working to verify the incident.
"In recent times, we have coordinated with local authorities to conduct educational campaigns and crack down on establishments violating railway safety corridors. However, some businesses continue to evade supervision and operate illegally," the official said.

Hanoi's train street cuts through Dien Bien Street in Ba Dinh District and Cua Nam and Hang Bong streets in Hoan Kiem District. In October 2019, the Hanoi People's Committee issued a directive to permanently shut down all commercial activities encroaching upon the railway corridor, citing serious safety and security concerns.
Officials from Hoan Kiem District reiterated that cafés operating along the Phung Hung railway corridor do not meet safety standards and posed significant risks.
