The trees along Nguyen Van Cu Street in Xuan Huong-Dalat Ward, Lam Dong Province, had their tops and branches cut back in recent days.

Nguyen Thi Thu Hang, who lives near Dalat Night Market, said the trees typically bloom in late February and early March, with their distinctive purple flowers becoming a familiar feature of the city.
She said pruning had previously been limited to diseased or potentially dangerous branches, while this time the trees had been cut back almost entirely to their trunks.

Some residents expressed concern that the extensive pruning could affect the trees' growth and prevent them from recovering in time for the next flowering season.
Le Quang Liem, director of Dalat Urban Services Joint Stock Company, said the trees were pruned to reduce safety risks ahead of the rainy and storm season.
He said jacaranda branches grow quickly but can break easily in heavy rain and strong winds, posing risks to pedestrians, vehicles and property.
Liem said the trees were expected to regrow their canopies within about a month and should still be able to flower in March 2027.
