The 20-kilometre coastal road from Hong Gai to Cua Ong, dubbed one of Vietnam’s most scenic seaside routes as it connects UNESCO-recognised Ha Long Bay with Bai Tu Long Bay in Quang Ninh Province.
The projects, located in Hong Gai, Cao Xanh, and Hoanh Bo Wards, will be financed from the provincial budget and carried out between 2025 and 2028.
The first road, running along the northwest coast of Cua Luc Bay, will stretch 8.3 kilometres from Troi 2 Bridge through Tinh Yeu Bridge to connect with National Highway 279. Designed for speeds of 60 km/h, it will cost VND 2.86 trillion (approximately USD 114 million).
The second road will run more than 7 kilometres from Tran Quoc Nghien Street through Binh Minh Bridge to Bang Bridge. Also designed for 60 km/h traffic, the project is estimated at VND 2.61 trillion (approximately USD 104 million).
Provincial Party Secretary Vu Dai Thang, during a site inspection on September 18, said the projects aim to modernise Quang Ninh’s transport infrastructure, expand urban space, and attract investment in new urban areas north of Cua Luc Bay. He emphasised the importance of accelerating procedures and construction progress.
Quang Ninh has already completed a nearly 20-kilometre, six-lane coastal road from Hong Gai to Cua Ong, dubbed one of Vietnam’s most scenic seaside routes as it connects UNESCO-recognised Ha Long Bay with Bai Tu Long Bay. Winding past limestone mountains and mangroves, the road has become a popular sightseeing spot for both residents and tourists.
The province also envisions transforming Cua Luc Bay into a “Sydney Harbour on Ha Long Bay,” with plans to develop international-class tourism, relocate polluting projects, invest in modern infrastructure, and build new urban areas and marinas.
