According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the storm, active in the northern East Sea, is intensifying and moving northwest. As of 7 am on June 13, it had reached Category 11 with gusts up to Category 14, affecting the Gulf of Tonkin, including Quang Ninh and Haiphong.
By 10 am, the storm’s centre was located southwest of China’s Hainan Island. It had sustained winds of Category 11 and gusts reaching Category 14, equivalent to a strong typhoon. The Gulf of Tonkin has experienced strong winds of Category 6 to 7, with gusts peaking at Category 8 to 9.
Authorities in Co To and Van Don districts and Ha Long City conducted vessel inspections and directed boats to move to safe shelter.
Quang Ninh’s coastal areas are expected to face Category 6 winds, gusts of 7 to 8, rough seas, and waves between two and four metres high. Authorities in Mong Cai, Cam Pha, and Ha Long have urged residents to suspend outdoor activities, particularly around ports and aquaculture zones.
Border guards are on alert at coastal checkpoints, with rescue teams and equipment on standby. Local disaster response units are closely monitoring weather updates to ensure timely action.
