Phu Quoc welcomes new direct flights from India

New direct flights from New Delhi are paving the way for Phu Quoc to be the leading destination for Indian travellers.

Phu Quoc International Airport welcomed over 180 Indian travellers on a new direct flight from New Delhi on December 10. This marked the start of a month-long flight series that will link the two destinations and bring a fresh wave of visitors to Vietnam’s pristine island. Travellers from India can now access experiences found nowhere else, from nightly fireworks and the world’s longest three wire cable car to iconic landmarks in southern Phu Quoc.

The flight was the first in a set of eight direct services operating from December 10, 2025 to January 10, 2026. Air India operates the route in partnership with Vietravel and MakeMyTrip, India’s largest online travel platform.

This timing allows travellers to begin exploring Vietnam right from their first morning. Tourism analysts view the launch as an important step in boosting one of Vietnam’s fastest growing visitor markets, one that holds major potential for Phu Quoc.

“Indian travellers are increasingly looking for destinations that offer unique, memorable and easy to access experiences. Phu Quoc fits this demand and is already a highlight in our Vietnam itineraries. The island has remained under-accessed simply due to the lack of direct flights. With this new route, we are making it much easier for Indian travellers to experience Phu Quoc during the winter travel season,” said Jasmeet Singh of MakeMyTrip.

Even before the introduction of direct flights, Phu Quoc had become a hot topic among Indian travellers alongside Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. Travel plus Leisure India recently described Phu Quoc as driving a “new check in wave” as social media fills with images of Indians unwinding on its beaches.

Phu Quoc appeals strongly to Indian visitors not only for its beaches but also for its signature attractions. These include Sunset Town with its Mediterranean visuals, the world’s longest three cable gondola reaching Hon Thom Island, the iconic non-touching Kiss Bridge and blockbuster shows such as Kiss of the Sea and Symphony of the Sea. Together, these elements make Phu Quoc the only island worldwide presenting two fireworks displays in one night, every night of the year.

Indian travellers also enjoy the vibrant nightlife of Sunset Town, especially VUI-Fest Bazaar and Sunset Bazaar, where international performers lead street shows and entertainment from morning through late evening.

“This island amazed me again and again with its grand scale shows and experiences I have never seen anywhere else. I especially loved the jetski and flyboard performances alongside fireworks in Symphony of the Sea. It was visually stunning and full of energy. I truly doubt any other destination can offer something similar,” said Arun Kumar from New Delhi.

Data from Agoda reported by Travel Daily Media in October shows Phu Quoc ranking among the ten most searched international honeymoon destinations for Indian travellers, with searches surging nearly 700 per cent year on year. At the same time, GQ India noted the sharp rise in Vietnam’s popularity, with more than 500,000 Indian visitors in 2024, and highlighted why Phu Quoc stands out: more direct flights, straightforward visa procedures and attractive costs.

Phu Quoc also benefits from Vietnam’s 30 day visa waiver for all international travellers, giving the island an important competitive advantage. The new direct flights further enhance this accessibility.

The New Delhi to Phu Quoc service is expected to encourage airlines to increase frequency and develop additional direct routes from other Indian cities.

Industry experts anticipate that these new services will demonstrate strong commercial potential and motivate carriers to expand operations on this high growth route. With its natural assets, distinctive attractions and improved connectivity, Phu Quoc is well positioned to become one of India’s favourite international destinations.
