Over VND 354 billion allocated for Ho Citadel preservation

Thanh Hoa's provincial authorities have approved a VND 354 billion (approximately USD 13.9 million) project to preserve the Ho Citadel UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The project will be carried out in the 2025-2028 period. Between 2025 and 2027, work will focus on upgrading the Hoang Nguyen Palace archaeological site, restoring the southern moat and ramparts, the Royal Road, and waterproofing the South Gate, among other facilities.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has been assigned as the project investor.

In the second phase from 2027 to 2028, the project will restore and preserve the Dong Thai and Tay Thai temples, including the Nam Thanh Bridge.

The Ho Citadel is Vietnam’s only stone citadel, also known as Tay Do Citadel, Tay Giai Citadel, or An Ton Citadel. The citadel built by Ho Quy Ly in the late 14th and early 15th centuries served as the capital of Dai Viet under the Tran Dynasty (1389-1400) and later of Dai Ngu under the Ho Dynasty (1400-1407).
