Preliminary surveys by Ninh Binh People’s Committee suggest that the airport would be located in Liem Tuyen Ward.
In an official dispatch sent on July 14, the Ninh Binh People’s Committee stated that the province is accelerating efforts to complete a feasibility study on the proposed Ninh Binh International Airport. The proposal will be submitted to the ministry for reporting to the prime minister, with the aim of including the project in the national master plan for airport development for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
Preliminary surveys suggest that the airport would be located in Liem Tuyen Ward, with favourable proximity to key regional transport hubs.
Specifically, the proposed site is approximately 80 km from Noi Bai International Airport, 85 km from Cat Bi Airport in Haiphong, 63 km from Gia Binh Airport, and 85 km from Tho Xuan Airport in Thanh Hoa.
It would also be located 5 km from Phu Ly Station, 43 km from Ninh Binh Station, and 17 km from Nam Dinh Station, major North-South high-speed railway stations.
According to the initial plan, the airport would be developed to meet International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Class 4E standards, with two dependent parallel runways. The total planned area is approximately 720 hectares.
The initial design capacity is 10 million passengers per year, with land reserved for future expansion to meet long-term development needs.
According to provincial authorities, developing an international airport would not only serve as a major transportation gateway for both domestic and international travel but also act as a catalyst for attracting investment and enhancing regional competitiveness. The airport is expected to enhance interregional connectivity, unlock the province’s potential in heritage, cultural, and spiritual tourism, and create new employment and livelihood opportunities for local communities.
