Phuong Trang Passenger Transport Joint Stock Company (Futa Buslines) held a ceremony on July 31 to announce the launch of 35 subsidised bus routes in HCM City.
These routes will be served by 557 new buses, including 443 electric vehicles, with the rest newly built diesel-powered units.
All 557 buses were newly built at the Kim Long Motor Plant, meeting international standards, with capacities of 30 to 60 seats. Routes are synchronised for smooth operations and seamless connection to the future metro system, enhancing passenger convenience.
According to Phan Van Hai, Deputy General Director of Phuong Trang Bus Company, the launch of 35 new routes will provide residents with high-quality transport options, reduce emissions and noise, and help promote a greener, cleaner city.
Nguyen Vinh Toan, Deputy Director of the HCM City’s Department of Construction, said the city now operates 164 bus routes and is transitioning from diesel to electric vehicles. With 170 electric buses currently in service, the addition of 443 more from August 1 will raise the total to 613, making up 26.2 per cent of the fleet.
The HCM City Department of Construction has proposed a roadmap to shift from fossil-fuel to green-energy buses, aiming for 100 per cent of the fleet to run on clean energy by 2030, Toan noted.
