Hanoi welcomes foreign journalists for 1,000 Year Anniversary

In anticipation of the upcoming anniversary, the city welcomed international media to join in the celebrations.

In anticipation of the upcoming 1,000 Year Anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi, the city opened its doors and welcomed international media to join in the celebrations.

The international welcoming conference for foreign media was held at Hanoi\'s Daewoo Hotel on September 10.

Ho Quang Loi, Chairman of the Education and Communication Committee of the Hanoi Party Committee, welcomed the international media.

Hanoi\'s image as an international "City of Peace", as recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and its elaborate history were on full display as the great celebration of Hanoi is just 30 days away.

Highlighted were the many achievements of Hanoi throughout its history and its standing as one of the 10 most interesting cities to visit in Asia. Having been awarded the Gold Star Medal (the most prestigious medal of Vietnam) 3 times and one of only 29 capital cities in the world that is 1,000 years or older, Hanoi has become an iconic international city.

Ho Quang Loi noted that, "The Thang Long - Hanoi 1,000 year history of construction and development associates with the dramatic and heroic upheavals, important political, economic and cultural events at a national and international scale. 1,000 years of history is also a process of tempering, forming and fostering the spiritual, material and cultural values of the peolpe and the land of Thang Long - Hanoi."

He views the presence of international media in Hanoi as an opportunity to make the celebration "echo in all over the world". To add to the echo, live broadcasts have been planned worldwide so Vietnamese and others can follow and join in the festivities.

Ho Quang Loi also highlighted the hundreds of commemorative activities that have been arranged for the 10 day Grand Celebration of Hanoi, beginning October 1. He also shared the accomplishments of many completed projects that were set forth in preparation of the anniversary including; the Hanoi Library, Hanoi Musuem, Thanh Giong Monument, Statue of Uncle Ho - Uncle Ton, Peace Park, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School, The Road Ceramics, Perimeter Road 3, Co Loa Citadel Relic, Thanh Tri Bridge, Vinh Tuy Bridge, and Thang Long Highway.

However, there are still 28 projects due to be completed before the celebrations which are still under construction.

Media addressed subjects such as traffic jam\'s during the celebration which the city is preparing to cope with. Hanoi is, "Not only ready, but happy to receive tourists in Hanoi," shared Madam Ngo Thi Thanh Hang, Vice Chairwoman of the National Steering Committee on the Millennium of Thang Long - Hanoi. With over 300 hotels in the 3 - 5 star range, and thousands of others, the city is confident it is prepared to handle the massive amount of visitors expected to join in the celebrations.

Hanoi was chosen as the capital city in the autumn of year 1010 by King Ly Thai To.
