Nguyen Hoang Cam and his wife Truong Thi Cam pose for a photo while travelling to Dak Lak Province.
Cam, from Ho Chi Minh City, said they recently completed a trip from the city to Buon Me Thuot in Dak Lak Province. The plan was to continue to Nha Trang and Dalat, but they had to cut it short due to a storm.
His passion for road trips began in 2005, when he rode an old Honda motorbike from Ho Chi Minh City to central Vietnam at the age of 51.

Without a detailed plan, the journey stretched to nearly a month and left Cam with unforgettable memories. In Hue, he was trapped for four days during a historic storm.
“The power was cut, the streets were flooded, and restaurants and shops were all closed. Police told everyone to stay indoors for safety,” he recalled. “I stayed in a hotel, ran out of food and had to endure hunger.”
When the storm finally passed, he resumed his trip only to face another challenge: a landslide on a mountain pass in Lam Dong Province.
“I was riding my motorbike when I suddenly heard a thunderous roar. Rocks and soil poured down right in front of me. I quickly turned back, just a moment slower, and I don’t know what would have happened,” he said.
For years, Cam rode solo while his wife was busy with work. It was not until 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, that she joined him. Initial reluctance soon gave way to passion, and now she eagerly packs whenever her husband suggests a trip.

Travelling together has brought them joy and precious memories. Matching outfits, photos by mountain roads and seaside views, and the simple happiness of companionship have made their journeys special.
To date, they have completed about 20 trips across the Northwest, Central Highlands and coastal regions. A photo of them in Mang Den went viral online, earning admiration for their youthful spirit.

“Our children are happy to see us healthy and able to travel,” Cam said. “We don’t ride to conquer, only to see more places, enjoy nature and keep our love alive.”
