HCM City honours outstanding citizens
HCM City Youth Union honoured nine outstanding citizens including a 13-year-old girl who is praised for her effort in rubbish recycling.
The ceremony to honour the winners will be held on January 2. The nine made contributions to the city in various fields. Three of the most notable winners were 13-year-old Cao Thanh Hieu, university student Ton That Vinh and singer Chi Thien.
Cao Thanh Hieu is a pupil at Nguyen Du Secondary School. She is also very active and has met with the city leaders several times. When attending educational conferences, she proposed many ideas.
21-year-old Ton That Vinh from the University Of Science was recognised for publishing work abroad.
Singer Chi Thien was also honoured for his charity works.
He has participated in the Day for Elimination of Gender Discrimination held by the UNDP in Vietnam for three years and a local fundraising campaign for children with cancer.

This year, she has proposed and successfully carried out the programme that exchanges plastic bottles for small gifts. Pupils are encouraged to collect plastic bottles. They can exchange every 10 bottles for school supplies such as notebooks, pens and rulers. Pupils with most bottles will be honoured and rewarded at the end of the year.

Singer Chi Thien was also honoured for his charity works.

In the past nine years, he has participated in numerous activities. In 2017, he put together a music show for children and raised VND500m (USD21,600) to build social housing and support for poor pupils. In 2018, he raised VND100m for various charitable activities.He has participated in the Day for Elimination of Gender Discrimination held by the UNDP in Vietnam for three years and a local fundraising campaign for children with cancer.
