Speaking with the media, the chairman of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee, Pham Van Thieu, said they would work with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to organise this special event.

"The event aims to introduce Vietnam's sea salt production and call on enterprises and organisations to invest in the production, processing, and trade of salt," he said. We also want to seek measures to enhance the quality of our product to compete with imported products."

The official said that sea salt production has existed in the province for nearly 200 years and was recognised as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2021.

However, many salt workers are struggling to sustain their livelihoods due to fierce competition from imported products of superior quality.

"Bac Lieu, with its over 1,460 hectares of sea salt fields, has seen a decline of over 48 percent since 2012," he said, emphasising the sector's need for increased government support to adopt modern production technologies for superior products.
