Nguyen Thi Kim Chi was among 60 students at Bac Son Secondary and High School in the central province of Quang Binh given a health insurance card by Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper during the 2023-2024 school year.

Chi said her parents knew health insurance was necessary but could not afford it.

"My parents don't have stable jobs so they are struggling to raise us," Chi shared. "We usually have to spend a lot to prepare for the new school year so sometimes they don't have money for health insurance. I'm very happy to be presented with this health insurance card which will help protect my health. Thank you so much."

Nguyen Thi Thao from the Mekong Delta Province of Hau Giang has two children studying at Vi Thuy High School. Thao also expressed gratitude when her children received health insurance support from Dantri/Dtinews for the 2023-2024 school year.

"I can't work due to poor health," Thao said. "My husband earns just VND200,000 (USD7.90) a day from his construction work, which is not stable. So, we've never been able to buy health insurance for our children. I want to send my sincere thanks to all the kind donors for your valuable support."

Attending the new school year opening ceremony at Doan Thi Diem Secondary School in Can Tho City on September 5, 2022, when Dantri/Dtinews came to present 1,000 health insurance cards to local students, Vice Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, cum Chairman of the city People's Council, Pham Van Hieu said he was very moved when Can Tho was chosen by Dantri/Dtinews to offer their first health insurance cards.

"The cards will help ease the financial burden on many local families that have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic," the official said. We want to sincerely thank Dantri/Dtinews and all kind donors for your valuable support of our residents.

When Dantri/Dtinews returned to the southern city of Can Tho on September 5, 2023, to present 1,200 health insurance cards to disadvantaged local students, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha was also present to attend the ceremony at Doan Thi Diem Secondary School and witnessed the Dantri gifts being given to the students. Ha highly appreciated the programme.

"The programme has helped many disadvantaged children and received support from many readers and kind donors," he said.

During the 2022-2023 school year, with support from readers and kind donors, Dantri Newspaper has presented 1,500 insurance cards worth nearly VND1 billion in total for disadvantaged students in the two Mekong Delta provinces of Can Tho and Hau Giang.

In the 2023-2024 school year, Dantri gave 1,200 cards to Can Tho students and nearly 400 others to those in some central provinces of Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, and Quang Binh.

Seeing the importance of health insurance to local students, Dantri/Dtinews will continue the programme in the coming 2024-2025 school year. The newspaper hopes to receive support and donations from organisations and individuals in the country and abroad.
