At 31 years old, meet the youngest associate professor in Vietnam
Bui The Duy, head of IT faculty of the Technology School at Hanoi National University was awarded the rank of associate professor by the State Professor's Board on November 20.
Two degrees at twenty-six
Bui The Duy is a humorous and friendly person. As for his newly-found position he said: “Designation as an associate professor stimulates me to better my teaching career." He is flattered and considers this to be a distinguished honour to receive this position.
He was highly regarded amongst his colleagues for his outstanding achievements when studying at the Mathematics-Informatics courses at Hanoi National University. He won the first prize of National Informatics Contest along with two third prizes at the international Informatics Olympics Contest.
New Informatics Associate Professor Bui The Duy at the age of 31
Duy entered into the Mathematics-Informatics faculty at the Natural Science School of Hanoi National University with examination exemption and managed to receive an Australian Government full scholarship to study. With his intelligence and diligence, he had finished his higher education and master's in only 3 years which is half of the usual length of study.
After that, he obtained again a full master scholarship from the Netherlands Government and obtained his degree one year sooner than the traditional curriculum mandates. Duy received a bachelor and master degree at the young age of 26.
He said: “It’s fortunate for me to gain full scholarships so I had no financial burdens and was able to spend all of my time on my studies. I tried to have the best results to come back home and serve the country. Furthermore, the international education regime allowed me to complete my studies in accordance to my abilities. I also spent my free time working with 2 companies to accumulate practical experiences.”
Continued contributions to education
Duy received many offers from leading international leading after completing his master's in the Netherlands but refused and returned home to teach Hanoi National University in 2004.Technology University,
“I intended to return home after my studies abroad to join my relatives, I also wanted to share my experiences with others," he said.
After two years of hard work, pursuing his talents and passions, he has taught, researched and seen 35 of his works published in domestic and foreign newspapers. He has submitted some of these works to Vietnamese ministries including, “Vietnamese speaking faces construction for human-machine interaction 2005-2006," along with, “Patient monitoring & tracking system production and research 2006” of Hanoi Science & Technology Department, etc…
In addition to these achievements, he has also trained Vietnamese teams to attend the ACM/ICPC Programming Contest for international students.
“It’s easy for our students to study informatics with our available information sources on the internet as long as they are hard-working and then they will win,” stated Duy.
His other accomplishments include being named as Deputy Director of Network Subject, and Chief of the IT faculty at only the age of 31.
He was honoured as the youngest Associate Professor in the IT industry of Vietnam this year in 2009.
