23 million Vietnamese students start new school year

Roughly 23 million students across Vietnam participated in ceremonies for the opening of the 2024-2025 school year this morning, September 5.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the opening ceremony for the new school year at Nguyen Dinh Chieu School in Hanoi. The school has 1,600 disabled students.

Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh participated in the ceremony at Ngo Si Lien Secondary School in Hanoi.



Meanwhile, HCM City People’s Committee Chairman Phan Van Mai inspected the facilities and attended the opening ceremony at Binh Tri Dong B Secondary School, Binh Tan District.

 

Hanoi has 2.3 million students this school year from 2,913 schools, including two newly opened high schools. 


According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong, the city will take measures to ease the classroom shortage and upgrade schools. The city has set a target to raise the rate of schools meeting national standards to 80-85 percent.

2025-2030, the city will have 30-35 public high schools.



HCM City had 1.7 million students in the 2024-2025 school year, up 24,000 from the previous school year.

The HCM City Department of Education and Training Director Nguyen Van Hieu said the city has ensured enough classrooms and teaching equipment for all local schools.

HCM City will have 476 new classrooms this year.

The 2024-2025 school year is the first year the 2018 General Education Program will be implemented at all levels, from Grade 1 to Grade 12.
