More than one million students from across Vietnam have started their high school graduation exam today [June 2].

Of the total, 918,282 students have pursued regular education, up 0.63% from a year earlier.
In the meantime, 134,799 are students of continuing education centres and 27,652 are those who have yet to take the previous years’ exams.
Students who are provided with regular education will be tested in six subjects including literature, physics, geography, biology, mathematics and foreign language or history.
Additional tests are given to those who choose to go on to some form of higher education.
Nationwide, 1,292 schools have been chosen as test sites. Some students who have to travel to take their exams will be provided with support. Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will cover their expenses on accommodation and meals.
Tran Van Thanh, from Phu Nhuan District, said, “I’ve taken off work for three days to pick up my child during exams.”
According to at least one parent, Nguyen Van Tuan, all this preparation may improve the quality of testing from that of years past. “I think that it might be harder for students to cheat this year because of more careful management. This way, we can see exactly the quality of education the students are receiving.”
